Following the successful installation of Secondary Glazing in Derbyshire to a nearby development in Chesterfield, MW Window Systems were recommended by Chesterfield Borough Council and given the opportunity once more to design, supply and install energy efficient secondary glazing to The Gates. A project comprising 10 new luxury apartments over 2 floors for contractors MJ Developments Ltd.
This mock Tudor fronted building boasted leaded single glazed lights all round, which despite the attractiveness and originality, performed poorly. As such, we installed over 30 secondary glazing windows (of various styles – horizontal sliding, vertical sliding and lift out panels) which comfortably complied with refurbishment building regulations and dramatically improved thermal and acoustic performance. All units are openable for cleaning and maintenance purposes when required.
If installed correctly and with the right glass, our secondary glazing can reduce noise by as much as 80% (equivalent to 54dB) when using acoustic laminate glass. The most effective solution for tackling busy traffic pollution or if you live in an area that is vulnerable to multiple sources of excessive noise intrusion. It can also reduce heating bills by up to 10% and achieve a u value of 1.8w/m2k using single glazing (low e coated) or even better 1.3 w/m2k* with the application of thick curtains. *figure based on data assembled by Jonathan Taylor for www.buildingconservation.com. We are also able to offer double glazed secondary glazing in the style of a Hinged unit, that performs to a u value of 0.9 w/m2k.
